Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Ensenachos & Cayo Las Brujas
Cayo Las Brujas, Cayo Ensenachos and Cayo Santa Maria are small islands in the northern coast of the central province of Villa Clara and are part of the Jardines del Rey archipelago, very close to the second largest coral barrier reef in the world. It’s a tropical paradise in an almost virgin environment, with several kilometres of excellent sugary-white sand beaches, renowned for their immaculate landscape of incredible beauty, crystal-clear waters of varying shades of blues and greens, fringed by autochthonous vegetation. The ecosystem is an important natural reserve and was declared "World Biosphere Reserve" by UNESCO.
Cayo Ensenachos with beaches stretching more than 2.6 kilometres in length, is the smallest of the keys, and is regarded by many as the one having the best beaches. Shaped like a horseshoe, the islet was originally an aboriginal settlement. Cayo Santa Maria, where several resorts are located, is 13 km long and 2 km in width. These keys are perfect for bathing, water sports, and relax. Great care has been taken to ensure that the resorts not only complements but also takes full advantage of these untouched natural surroundings.
The keys are connected to mainland, near Caibarién town, by a 48 km long scenic causeway (pedraplén) stretching over the sea and there is also a domestic airport at Cayo Las Brujas with daily flights from/to Havana. Abel Santa Maria International Airport in Santa Clara City is 116 km away. From Havana is available one-day excursion to Cayo Santa Maria.
