The classic Greek style swimming pool, and the terrace with bar/restaurant located on the top floor of the NH Parque Central, have splendid views of Havana, shared by the majority of meeting rooms and hotel rooms, including exceptional views of Parque Central and Paseo del Prado. Single room reference rate:€99/night.
Old Havana hotels - Room & Breakfast. Palatial in magnitude and elegance, the Santa Isabel enjoys what is perhaps the most privileged location of all hotels in the area: facing the charming Plaza de Armas (a cobbled square flanked by colonial-era constructions, museums and restaurants), the long, three-storey property is literally in the very heart of Old Havana, close to the sightseeing beat’s most interesting sites.
The colonial grandeur of the façade is well matched by the large, air-conditioned lobby, where crystal chandeliers, ostentatious upholstered sofas, and period furnishings take one back to the time the property was owned by the Count of Santovenia, a member of 19th century Cuban nobility. A less formal and more relaxed atmosphere is found in the shady Spanish-styled courtyard, which adjoins the lobby, where one can enjoy a fine cocktail, or quiet read at one of the tables surrounding the central fountain.
Accommodations at the Santa Isabel have the colonial charm found at several other Habaguanex hotels. The long terrace overlooking the Plaza, shared by west-facing rooms, is doubtless one of their most attractive features. The hotel suite has also known a number of famous guests, including ex-US President Jimmy Carter, Jack Nicholson, and Sting.
The Santa Isabel is a high-class establishment with plenty of history, colonial appeal, and unparalleled location. Single room reference rate:€133/night.
Old Havana hotels - Room & Breakfast. A relatively new addition to Old Havana’s hotel offer is the Saratoga Hotel. It is a stylishly luxurious establishment, which combines charming early century elements with inventive and tasteful modern décor and facilities. Though the interiors were completely rebuilt and refashioned, (3 floors were added to the property’s original 4), the eclectic, chiefly neo-classical façade has been restored and recalls the days, in the 1930s, when artists and other cultural luminaries gathered there and the spot was enlivened by the Anacaona all-girl orchestra.
The hotel’s immediate surroundings are, admittedly, somewhat noisy and not aesthetically pleasing. This minor shortcoming, however, is more than compensated for by the Saratoga’s privileged location: at the south end of Prado, the hotel is across the street from the Capitol building and Gran Teatro and a relatively short walk away from the seawall and Obispo, one of the main access points of the colonial heart of the Old Town.
Inside, guests are greeted by a daring and sophisticated interior design that sets a new tone for hotels in the area, evoking the kind of cosmopolitan spirit one might come across in New York or another big city. The mezzanine bar, under an atrium skylight, epitomizes this feeling with its mixed furnishings, tall palms, and large mural showing a Cuban landscape. Just as inviting are the Anacaona Restaurant, its intimate adjoining bar, and the rooftop restaurant, which offers good views of Paseo del Prado and places of interest such as the Partagás Cigar Factory, Capitol building and others.
The prevailing mood of elegance and tasteful design carries to the hotel’s accommodations, which combine classical elements with modern facilities (such as Internet access).
Other attractive features include outdoor parking, Wi-Fi in communal areas, a highly modern gym, massage services, a well-equipped business centre, and two meeting rooms. Single room reference rate:€204/night.

Old Havana is the richest colonial-era site in Latin America. It has the typical appearance of a Spanish colonial city and much of the defensive system created in those years remains in place. Spanish rule, which spanned a period of 400 years, bequeathed to Havana a unique colonial architecture. In 1982, UNESCO designated the colonial core area as a World Heritage Site.
Numerous museums and art galleries enrich the old city with their quality and historical value. Nevertheless, the whole of Old Havana may be seen as a museum of architecture due to the wide variety of styles of the restored palaces and mansions many of which have become inns with restaurants housed in their internal colonial patios. The hotels and inns are a short walk away from the major squares, fortress, museums, small open-air restaurants, art galleries, and shops. It is impossible to walk through the small streets without encountering the sounds of guitars, afro-cuban percussion, and troubadours.
Thousands of foreigners, as well as Cubans, visit Old Havana daily to admire the charms and the amazing restoration process performed on its historic center.
