Pinar del Río City - Pinar del Río Province, Cuba

Santa Clara City - Las Villas Province, Cuba

Santa Clara - Cuban city Santa Clara, founded in 1689, is the capital city of Las Villas Province, 276 km from Havana. The architectural structure of this city is mainly based in the colonial style, with perpendicular streets and houses with porches. Vidal Park, in the centre of Santa Clara, is probably one of the most typical places of Cuba. Santa Clara was the scenery of the important Battle of Santa Clara in late 1958. It’s also the see of a mausoleum, which houses the remains of Che Guevara, and his fellow combatants killed in Bolivia in 1967. There’s also a museum devoted to Guevara’s life, and a reconstruction of the train derailed by Guevara during the Battle of Santa Clara. A one-day excursion - Duration: 10 hours. Cienfuegos City - Cienfuegos Province, Cuba

Cienfuegos - Cuban city Cienfuegos, the capital city of Cienfuegos Province, is 255 km from Havana. It was founded in 1819 by the French, with a permission of the General Captain of the Island. UNESCO declared its Urban Historic Centre a World Heritage Site in 2005. Nowadays it’s considered among the most attractive places of Cuba’s southern coast. Its architectural structure is quite impressive and it still maintains the neoclassical attributes that began to spread with the French Revolution. Cienfuegos bay is one of the most beautiful in the Island. There’s a Spanish fortress dated from 1745, which is the third important castle of the country, after the Morro castles of Havana and Santiago de Cuba.

Trinidad City - Sancti Spiritus Province, Cuba

Trinidad - Cuban cityTrinidad, founded in 1514, is located in Sancti Spiritus Province, 335 km from Havana. UNESCO declared this city a World Heritage Site in 1988. Trinidad has remained untouched by elapsing time, and its historical centre is spectacular and unique. You can admire magnificent palaces, cobblestone streets, artistic balconies, admirably worked grills, and multicoloured facades. The main square is a Baroque relic of the XVI Century. Near the city is the famous Sugar Mills Valley (El Valle de los Ingenios) where very prosperous sugar cane mills were settled during the Spanish domination. UNESCO also declared the Valley a World Heritage Site in 1988. In the nearness of Trinidad City, you can also visit Ancon beach, La Boca beach and the town of Casilda.

Casilda Town - Sancti Spiritus Province, Cuba

Santiago de Cuba City - Santiago de Cuba Province, Cuba

Santiago - Cuban citySantiago de Cuba was the last of the first seven villages established in Cuba by the Spanish Governor Diego Velázquez in 1515, and functioned as capital of the Island until 1550. Santiago de Cuba has a wonderful history since the very beginning of the Spanish conquest, which continued through the struggles for the Cuban independence from Spain and later during the Cuban Revolution. Traditionally, Santiago de Cuba has been considered the most hospitable city of the country. The people of Santiago are open, welcoming, talkative, and generous with outsiders. The outstanding bay of Santiago de Cuba is one of the most beautiful in the Island. This city has many historic and interesting sites to visit. It’s also well known for its Carnival festivities, which takes place in the month of July every year.

Baracoa City - Guantánamo Province, Cuba

Baracoa - Cuban cityChristopher Columbus initially named this small village as Puerto Santo. To attest the settlement there was erected La Cruz de Parra, considered the oldest existing Christian symbol in America. Twenty years later, in 1512, Diego Velázquez founded there the first village of Cuba, named Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Baracoa. Nowadays the city is called Baracoa, an indigenous name. For centuries, the city used to suffer attacks from corsairs and pirates. It was a forgotten and practically inaccessible land until 1962, when La Farola, the 148 Km viaduct, was constructed. The viaduct provides a great scenic drive when going to or back from Baracoa.

Gibara City - Holguín Province, Cuba

Gibara - Cuban city The White Town, as Gibara is commonly known, is a charming small seaside city west of Guardalavaca, Holguín. Gibara was one of the fortified cities of Cuba and its colonial architecture has been beautifully preserved. Examples of this are the Garrison ruins and the Battery of Fernando VII, which have achieved national relevance. Its cultural heritage, dated from the aborigines up to date, can be appreciated in its museums. In terms of landscape, the city is blessed by the sea along with surroundings of exuberant vegetation. The region’s symbol is the “Silla de Gibara”, reputed to have been referred to by Christopher Columbus in the journal of his first voyage. Gibara is a perfect place to stay at while touring the country or visiting Guardalavaca or Holguín City. Every year the International Low-Budget Film Festival takes place in this picturesque city by the sea.
